Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for everyone. Breakfast helps bring good energy toward people throughout the day. It helps keep the mind focus, depending on the meal you had. It is important for both adults and children. Though for one reason or another, some children may not eat breakfast. Toddlers can be hard to feed now and again. Patience is one of the keys to the issue. There are many factors to why a child may not eat breakfast. It can be hard to pinpoint the answer to the problem of a child, not eating an early meal.
1. Talk to a child doctor or physician
Going to a professional would be a great option for most parents. If the issue is something coming up constantly, then talk to your child’s doctor quickly. Explain the situation as much as possible and leave no detail out. Before doing anything, try feeding your child their food as much as possible. If there are no results, contact their doctor. Either contact by phone and explain what is going on or met them face to face. Only come to such an option if the child repeats in such behavior. Don’t feel shame or nervous when contacting a physician on the issue. Tell them as much information you have on your child and their diet. Let them know if this is something that happens daily. Be clear and give a lot of detail. Let them also know if your baby is at a normal weight. Try to do research on the weight of an average baby and weigh your child before calling. The more information about the situation you have, the better answers you will receive. Listen and ask for practical advice for the doctor and ask any concerning questions you may have.
2. Try feeding your toddler later
Another method to try out is simply trying to feed your child later. Whatever schedule you feed your child, try again at a later time. Do not force your child to eat or get upset with the toddler. Simply wait for a while until you decide to feed the child again. Simply wait around 30 minutes to try and feed the child. Let the toddler play an activity or watch a bit of television for a while. Let the process go through before you decide to let the toddler eat again. Once the 30 minutes are up, try to feed the child. If the plan does not work, wait another 20 minutes before feeding the child again. If it still fails, try waiting an hour to feed the child. At such a point, the toddler may grow hungry. If possible, try at least giving your toddler some milk or a beverage. Even water will do, have something that will better energize the child. Drinking something may help make your child more hungry. Water or fruit juice will do fine, try not to give your child soda.
3. Give your toddler a light lunch and dinner
Another factor which comes into play would be a previous meal. Make sure not to overfeed your child the night before; it could be the reason. Don’t give your child too little or too much to eat. Make sure you separate the hours to which you feed your child. Make sure the hours to which you feed the child lunch and dinner have at least a four-hour gap. The child may not be hungry when dinner comes around on the schedule. It could come off as problematic. You may wind up feeding your child fairly late in the evening if that happens. Try to feed your child the last meal of the day around 6 pm. Feeding a child later could carry over the next morning. Make sure to feed your child a healthy and tasty meal. Also, avoid feeding your child any heavy sweets before and between meals. Such an action could sour your child’s appetite and make it, so you have to push back the next meal. Also, try not feeding your child a late-night snack if the toddler doesn’t eat breakfast.
4. Try feeding your toddler something new
A change in diet may be the best option for feeding a child breakfast. The problem could be your child may not like what you are providing. Try coming up with something new for your child to eat. If you are feeding the child baby food or milk, substitute it with sliced fruit if you are feeding your child fruit, vice versa. Try feeding your child healthy mashed foods in the morning-one which is healthy for toddlers to consume. Try different brands of baby food if you must. Go to your local grocery store and look at the brands which are offered. Try getting more than two brands for your baby to try out. Also, consider getting fruit for your child to eat. Bananas and seedless grapes would be a good start. Also, consider feeding your child applesauce if you have not tried.
5. Help them build up an appetite
If the other steps do not work, try to help your child build up an appetite. Try running around with your toddler for a few minutes to an hour. Encourage your child to run with you and have a bit of fun. At most, play with your toddler for an hour and make sure the child is exercising. It will not only help the child build up an appetite but wake the child up. The toddler may still be a bit tired and not hungry from just waking up. A bit of exercise will be able to provide the toddler with energy and appetite. It will not only build up an appetite but get the child ready for the day. Play and run with the child for at least an hour or at most an hour and a half.
