During pregnancy, alteration in the center of gravity is recorded. The shifting of the center of gravity is due to the increased size of your belly. This makes you feel heavy and unbalance. The chances of fall are higher in uneven places.

Pregnancy is not a disease. You cannot restrict yourself to your home because you are expecting. All you need is to carry something to eat so that if you feel dizzy, you take it right at that time.
You should be really careful while walking. You should avoid uneven and wet or greasy surfaces in your pathway. When using stairs, it is better to use handrails and walk slowly. Take a single step at a single time to avoid any inconvenience.
Be cautious in darkness
You should stay more cautious in night time or anywhere dark. Chances of numbness increase when you are asleep. When you get up abruptly from your bed somewhere in the middle of the night, there are more chances to fall, firstly due to numb feet and secondly due to darkness. You also should stay cautious while using washrooms. The surface of the washroom is wet and somehow soapy, so you get more vulnerable to slip.
Choice of shoes
The choice of footwear is very important during pregnancy. You should avoid high heels and flat shoes. Wearing high heels or flat shoes causes strain in your calf that sometimes results in a fall. You should wear a shoe that is low heeled, comfortable, and easy to walk with. Most importantly, you should opt for a pair of shoes that have a good grip to avoid any kind of slip.
Fall during pregnancy is not always fatal. It depends on various factors like the age of the mother, position of fall, and at which trimester you are falling. You should always see your doctor if you fall while pregnant. Especially (but NOT only) if any of the following apply to you:
- If you feel severe abdominal pain
- If you notice any vaginal bleeding
- If your amniotic fluid starts to leak
- If you feel less movement of your baby
- If you start feeling false pains
- If you start to get faint after a fall
