When your baby is so afraid of strangers that they freak out in their presence, they have breakdowns, the world stops. You have trouble taking them in public. They can not be around new family members and friends. Changing schools or visiting new churches is an absolute headache. The world is filled with tons of new faces that they may encounter as they grow daily. Try some of the tips in this article to help alleviate your child’s anxiety. 1. Do A Little Research
New mothers will research everything with their children. That’s why you are here today. You are trying to find out what to do about the fear of strangers in your child. Research is the best place to start. You need to know why this exists. You need to know the motivation behind it to get rid of it or even lessen it. Your child has the best opportunity for success if you are well versed in the issue.

2. Be Sensitive
All parents are different. Most parents tend to think they are the sweetest when it comes to handling their children’s issues and that they are filled with sensitivity. This can’t be the farthest thing from the truth if you could see yourself through someone else’s eyes, though. Now, of course, many are very sensitive. Some are even too sensitive. But in a situation such as this one, you need to be sure to understand that your child’s emotions are what is fueling his or her outbursts. They can not control what they are feeling. This is the time as a parent that you have to turn on that super sensitive side and be as caring as you can be. Listen to what your child is telling you. They are more than likely explaining in some way, why they are so frightened of strangers. Is there an event that caused this? Do they have language barriers? Regardless, you have to be the parent that stops and listens to get to the bottom of it. You can not do that if you will not be sensitive enough to try to understand that your child can not help the way that their emotions are making them react at this time.
3. Prepare Your Child For Encounters With Stranger
Everyone likes surprises! NOT! If you like surprises, you may think this, but if you are a person who doesn’t like surprises, you understand that statement. Treat your child as if they are the latter. Do not surprise them with people. Try to prepare them for situations where they may have to encounter new people. Your child may have to come in contact with large crowds. If this should happen and you know can do some damage control, try to as much as possible. Talk to your child. Soothe them ahead of time. Ask them if they are feeling anxious about upcoming situations.
If your baby is unable to communicate verbally, you can still prepare them by using soothing tones when you talk. Hold them close in situations where they are around people. Do not let many people hold them when in crowds. You may let one person hold them, but do not abandon them or go far. Stand close and keep your hand on their back. Smile a lot and make sure that your child can feel the positive energy that you give off to the person that wants to hold them so that they feel good about them as well.
4. Allow Your Child To Interact With Different People
This one is difficult, but it is necessary as your child gets older. Start slow, but allow your child to interact with different people. We live in a world of different races, creeds, and colors. Sometimes your child can be afraid of people merely because they do not look like you. That is not a judgment, it is just because people are afraid of people who do not look like themselves, and when children are not used to something, they shy away from it.
You can change this. This is not just how you change your child; this is how you can change the world. Introduce your child to different types of people. Let them see all types of people, and they will begin to become comfortable around them more and more each day. It will not happen overnight. It will be a challenge, and it will take time, but it will happen.
5. Be Consistent & Patient
If you want your child to overcome his or her debilitating fear of strangers, then you must be consistent, and you must remain patient. As with anything, you have to decide that you are going to stick with it until you see the light. Your child’s future is one of the most important things in the world to you, and if that isn’t enough reason to push forward, then I don’t know what is. Your child will test you, and of course, you may give up a few times, but it is up to you to keep pushing. The reward at the end is far too big just to give up.
As stated before, you want your children to be aware of people that they do not know. You even want them to take note of them so that they do not put themselves in bad situations. You just do not want them to be so afraid of people that they miss the opportunity to meet great people. These times can be networking opportunities in the future as adults. You know that who they are like children will spill over into the people they are as adults, and if they are afraid as children, they will be the shyest adults. Sometimes unable to survive in the hustle and bustle of the real world.
